About Quintumble

Quintumble is a daily five-word puzzle that challenges players to rearrange letters in columns to discover five hidden words. Designed by Binoy Mascarenhas, each puzzle is handcrafted and refreshed daily, offering a unique mental challenge in a simple, web-based interface—no installation required.

How to Play

Rearrange the letters in each column to form one word per row. The first column is fixed, while the remaining letters can move up or down within their column. Tap two tiles in the same column to swap them. The goal is to find the unique set of five words that completes the puzzle.

Tip: Some rare or obscure words may highlight green, but they will never be part of the solution.

Scoring

You start with 100 points, losing 1 point per minute. Use the "Reveal Letter" option to uncover any tile for a cost of 10 points.

FAQs

How does 'Reveal Letter' work?

Tap "REVEAL LETTER" and select a tile. The solution letter swaps into that position, and the tile turns purple. Each reveal costs 10 points.

What word list does Quintumble use?

The game uses around 15,000 valid five-letter English words. Only a curated set of ~2,300 common words appears as puzzle solutions. Rare or offensive words may appear during play but never as solutions.

Do I need to be a dictionary expert?

No. Quintumble solutions use only common words like CAMEL, QUERY, or NORTH. You can try any five-letter word, but each puzzle has only one valid solution.

How are stats recorded?

Your stats are saved locally in your browser. To maintain continuity, always play on the same device and browser (avoid incognito mode). Stats are private and not sent to any server.

How do Streak Badges work?

Complete the daily puzzle to maintain your streak. A 1-Day Streak Freeze allows skipping one day without resetting. Badges reflect your streak progress up to a 365-day Ultimate Unicorn.

What does Quintumble mean?

“Quintumble” combines "quint" (sequence of five) and "jumble," reflecting a grid of five 5-letter words. It belongs to the family of word games like Scrabble, Boggle, and Wordle.

Tips & Strategies

  1. Stick to common words: Solution words are drawn from 2,309 common words. Green-highlighted words may not be part of the solution.
  2. Target uncommon letters: Focus on rare letters like J, Q, X, Z first, as they help narrow possibilities quickly.
  3. Consider positional rarity: A letter’s position matters. For example, E is common overall but rare at the start of words.
  4. Look for letter pairs: Common combinations (e.g., ST, LY) can guide placement in adjacent columns.
  5. Avoid false positives: Only one set of five words is correct. Rare letters often indicate valid words.
  6. Use reveals strategically: Only reveal a tile when multiple options exist to avoid wasted points.
